Westchester Parents’ Nursery School is composed of five playrooms, a playground and a bike yard. Children have lots of room to work and play.
The Main Classroom provides puzzles, table toys, puppets, a book corner and a coloring area filled with arts and crafts materials.
The Drama Room accommodates dramatic play and dress-up, and includes a child-sized workbench, a doll house, a play loft and a kitchen area.
The Block Room offers opportunities to build (using blocks of various styles), to create marble mazes and to experiment with science. The magnetic wall provides a great opportunity for creating designs with various objects, as well as tracks for the various cars and animals.
The Library offers book and games, as well as a quiet place for children, parents and teachers to read our large collection of books. We also often meet in the Library for story time.
The Discovery Room is filled with trains, trucks, small play houses and people, perfect for encouraging imagination.
The Playground provides outdoor time and exploration. The Playground includes climbing equipment, water play, discovery tables, a club house, painting easels, a sandbox and an area for gardening. We also have various sensory activities set up on tables throughout the day that encourage touch, feel and fine motor skills.
The Bike Yard gives the children an option of riding bicycles and scooters in a secure bike area. There is also a child-sized basketball hoop, large bowling pins, frisbees and other activities to keep the children active as they are having fun.
In addition to the various rooms and outside areas, we have daily art projects that are set up and led by a parent in our outdoor breezeway. Our children are always excited to bring home their art projects and paintings for their parents.
We also have a number of small animals in residence to pique your student’s interest. We have Sammy the lizard, two frogs, two hermit crabs and three fish, as well as a crow who often visits that we call Bob.
Parents Learn Too!
WPNS is a cooperative nursery school. Along with the teachers, working parents help throughout the school day. While participating on your work day, you will…
* Have time to enjoy and observe your own child in a loving, learning environment.
* Increase your understanding of the developmental needs of children.
* Learn parenting techniques for handling children at school and at home.
* Share experiences and concerns with other parents.
* Meet others in the community.
