Recycling
The goal of terraCycle is to prevent snack and drink containers from ending up in landfills or being incinerated. TerraCycle helps band consumers together into groups — called “Brigades” — to return used packaging in bulk to TerraCycle.
Returned goods are then cleaned out and transformed into new products including bags, coolers, clip boards, picture frames and kites. In addition, for every package returned the brigade earns money to put towards a charity of their choice or, if the team is from a school or non-profit organization, they can keep the money to further their mission.
WPNS has been working with TerraCycle and a part of the amount is donated to the school fundraising. Please drop off the stuff at membership meetings.
- Candy Wrapper: any size and brand candy wrapper. Individual candy wrappers, large candy bags and multi-pack candy bags. No boxes or gum packaging.
- Cheese Packaging: any brand string cheese packages, individual singles wrappers, singles packages, shredded cheese packages, grated cheese containers, creamed cheese packaging, cottage cheese tubs, all cheese wrappers.
- Chip Bag: any brand or size chip bags, tortilla chip bags, pretzel bags, pita chip bags, soy crisp bags, salty snack bags.
- Oral Care: any brand toothpaste tubes, toothpaste caps, toothbrushes, floss containers and plastic toothbrush packaging, excluding cardboard.
- Cookie Packaging: any brand and size cookie wrappers, cookie bags, individual cookie bags, inner plastic trays.
- Drink Pouch: any brand aluminum drink pouches, plastic drink pouches. No juice boxes.
- Snack Pouch: any brand healthy snack pouch plastic packaging.
- Personal Care and Beauty: any type of used personal care or beauty product packaging including, but not limited to, lipstick cases, shampoo bottles, hairspray cans, powder cases, mascara tubes, eye shadow cases, conditioner bottles, bronzer cases, foundation packaging, body wash containers, soap tubes, soap dispensers, lotion dispensers, shaving foam tubes, lotion bottles, chapstick tubes, lotion tubes, face soap dispensers, face soap tubes, face lotion bottles, face lotion jars, nail polish bottles, nail polish remover bottles, eyeliner cases, eyeliner pencils, eyeshadow tubes, concealer tubes, concealer sticks, lipliner pencils, hand lotion tubes, hair gel tubes, hair paste jars.
- Paper Product Wrapper: any brand and size of outer plastic wrapping from paper products including paper towels, bath tissue, napkins, and moist wipes.
- Ziplock Bag: any brand and size of zip closure plastic bags.
